The Kett TP-3000 Pearlest is a benchtop sample polisher that removes the bran layer of brown rice on a laboratory scale to prepare kernels for inspection. Once the bran is removed, the share of kernels discoloured by insects, excess heat, mould or bacteria can be counted by eye or by instrument. It works with 10 g samples and is also used to prepare sake rice and to test barley suitability. Polishing time depends on the sample type and moisture.
